Sculpture
This body of work plays with the transformation of material, behavior and an introspection on the emotions and life beyond traumatic times. These sculptures hold together a string of emotional events depicted through yarn sculptures and bronze castings.
This series of work has allowed me to express feelings of anxiety surrounding a traumatic experience. I use material and process to explore the relationships between my mind and body. My work reflects discoveries about myself and my body, both have the capability of breaking and regaining strength, these feeling have brought me to think about the similarities and differences in our physical and internal struggles.
These sculptural forms I created represent my body and its resilience in the process of healing. Taking inspiration from visual illustrations of the skeleton, bones, muscles, and cells I construct sculptures which reflect the process of growth and healing. The sculptures become abstract forms creating tension between texture, shape, and structure. This tension references a disconnect between mind and body.
